I don't have a mobile phone can I still use the system?

Yes, you have two options. When you register you will need to enter a phone number, this could be your home phone number. We will use this phone number to identify you. When you wish to rent a bike call from a nearby landline or public phone, enter your registered phone number and PIN onto the phone keypad when prompted so the system can identify you.

OR you can use our Internet rental site at a nearby internet lounge.

Can I use TXT to rent a next bike?

No but you can use mobile internet to access this site, and it costs less than TXT. Have a look at this Internet rental page.

I have a mobile but it's registered to my home country, can I still rent a bike?

Yes, there are a two possible solutions, register with your current mobile number, including your home country calling code first. So if you are from Germany your country code is 0049 and your mobile number might be 0151 999 4444, so when you register your mobile number would be +491519994444. You could use this mobile every time you rented a nextbike, or call from a public phone and enter your registered phone number when asked (491519994444) and PIN. This way we can send you a TXT with the bike rental information in it each time

OR you could buy a New Zealand SIM card for your phone, and register that number.

Do not register your hotel or accommodation phone number.

Why am I asked to pay when I register?

Nextbike operates a registration scheme for regular riders - "Registered Rider" tickets. As a Registered Rider ticket holder you are entitled to one free ride, upto a maximum of 30 minutes, in a 24 hour period - "Free Period" , for so long as you are registered. When your Registered Rider ticket expires you will become a "Casual Rider". Casual Riders can still ride, but are not entitled to the Free Period. If you wish to continue as a Registered Rider, simply access your account and buy another Registered rider ticket.

I registered but never received a TXT on my mobile phone?

99 times out of a hundred you will receive a TXT before you have finished the registration, it will show your registered phone number and password. Occasionally this can take a couple of minutes if the networks are busy. If it fails to come through after 10 minutes, check your emails for registration details. Login using your registered phone number and PIN and check the format of your cellphone number. For example, it must be in the format that an international caller would use to contact you +64257779191 for a New Zealand mobile with the number 025 777 9191

We are currently experiencing problems getting TXT's to customers on the 2 Degrees network, which we are resolving (9 March 2010)

I registered and received emails from a company called Worldpay, why?

Worldpay, are specialists in internet payment solutions and store your creditcard information in the safest ways possible.

I registered but when I try to rent a bike I need to enter a phone number and PIN, why?

There are three possible reasons, you entered your mobile phone number incorrectly when you registered, for example, it must be in the format that an international caller would use to contact you +64213335555 for a New Zealand mobile with the number 021 333 5555. Login to your account and update your details.

OR you have switched your phone to hide it's caller ID. Look at the manufacturers handbook to switch this feature back on.

OR you are calling from another mobile phone or landline that is different from the one you registered.

I have some friends that would like to ride, can they?

You can hire upto 4 bikes with one account, or your friends could register.

I don't have a creditcard, can I still ride the bike?

No. Creditcard payments allow us to keep our riding costs low. You might like to ask your bank about the new range of debit cards that run on the credit card technology but don't allow you to get into debt.
